What we Do
Our Sponsorship Program is designed to help students who are excelling in school, but have absolutely no means to pay for their education. Recommendations are first made by the teachers. From there we have an application process done by the recommended students, to which we then narrow it down to select students.
Breaking The cycle
We believe that education is a key element in breaking the cycle of poverty, which is why we are working to support students who inherit precarious circumstances. With our Sponsorship Program, you’ll have the opportunity to assist a student who is in desperate need of school fee support. You’ll be sending a child to school who without you, wouldn’t receive a proper education. Who knows you might be putting the new president of their country through school!
How do sponsorships work?
Donors will be able to sponsor a student for the year in two ways. They can either donate once upfront or they can split the full amount up into monthly payments. Once you’ve submitted your application and payment, you will receive a confirmation that your sponsorship has been received.
Malawi is broken up into three school terms throughout the year. Depending on the time of year you contribute, your sponsorship will be assigned to a student as soon as the new school semester starts. We don’t distribute funding in the middle of the semester. Then, from whichever semester your sponsorship starts, it’ll cover an entire year.
For each student you sponsor...
They'll Receive:
- Cost of school fees
- School uniform and shoes
- A backpack or satchel full of supplies

You'll Receive:
- A packet from Backpacks for Africa notifying you that a student has been selected, along with a photo and basic information on the student selected
- A personal letter from the student at the end of the year
