I'm Sara Mwamlima. I was born here in the states, but having a father who is from Africa, I grew up hearing the stories about how fortunate we are growing up here in America; how so many kids in Africa have nothing, not even a pencil to write with. Growing up, I always had a mental picture of how deprived many students where, but it wasn’t until I took a mission trip to Kenya at a young age that my eyes were truly opened to how desperately in need these students were for even the most basic school essentials, and how without them their education was suffering. I knew I wanted to change that. I know I can't change the world, but I knew even if I changed the lives of hundreds by improving their education it would make all the difference!

My name is Amber Odom. Helping others is something that I am very passionate about. In the end it feels so rewarding just knowing that you made a difference in someone’s life. Hearing how happy someone is, or even seeing someone’s delightful reaction just melts my heart. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make. It’s amazing how many things that some people take for granted on a daily basis. I’ve always believed that every day is another opportunity to make a difference, and all it takes is a little care.

I believe we are all connected naturally to be a light of happiness to one another. Every child has a dream, an unfolded beautiful career. But most children in Africa lack the most basic needs and support. Being from here and having experienced it, I've found happiness in being part of the organisation and helping others. If we never help, we may never see the great value that some could bring to making our world a better place.

Hi, I'm Rashad. Growing up in an inner city area gave me a unique perspective on education. I saw how limited resources affected my school system and community. But I was also able to witness the power of the human spirit. We can make a lot out of a little if given the opportunity, and In this era of digital and social interconnectivity the oppurtunities are endless. I firmly believe that children are the brightest facet of humanity, and in this platform we have a chance to help them reach their fullest potential. It's my joy to be able to help children in pursuit of knowledge, especially those with limited resources at their disposal. I joined the team at Backpacks for Africa in search of that opportunity.
